Bedtime stories are much loved by parents and children alike. The evening ritual brings families closer together and prepares even the most energetic youngsters for a good night’s sleep. At Shaw C of E Primary School, we believe that no child should miss out on the magic of the bedtime story. That’s why today, our pupils are taking part in the BookTrust Pyjamarama.
This brand-new nationwide campaign will raise money to make sure every child has a bedtime story. To take part, pupils at Shaw have ditched their uniforms and come into school dressed in their comfy pyjamas.
Research shows that bedtime stories aren’t just good preparation for sleep; they’re also important for education. Children who don’t have access to books and stories in the early years start school a year behind their peers, a gap that widens as they get older.
All of the money raised by Shaw, and everyone else taking part in the event, will go toward funding BookTrust’s work in supporting more families. For just £25, BookTrust could provide 15 pre-school children living in women’s refuge centres with their own book pack. For £50, they could provide six families with additional support through their children’s centre to develop a reading habit.
Diana Gerald, CEO of BookTrust, said: “We want to make sure that no child misses out on the life-changing benefits of a bedtime story. We hope that children across the country will join their favourite characters in wearing pyjamas for the day and bringing in £1 so that we can reach families who so desperately need our support.”
“Wearing pyjamas all day is a wonderful way to show support for reading, and, importantly, it’s incredibly easy for schools, nurseries, children, and busy parents!”
Our pupils have really bought into this fantastic event, and they are all enjoying a school day spent in the comfort of their pyjamas. We would like to thank all the children and parents who are taking part and helping us raise money for BookTrust’s wonderful cause.
