Online Safety

Online safety is an important topic to be aware of, especially during this period of school closures where it is likely that your child may be spending more time online. To support with this, we have included a weekly online safety activity in the home learning section of the website for your child to complete. We have also listed some guidance and useful websites for further support below:

Reporting: If you are concerned about any online issue, it is important that you report it so that it can be addressed appropriately. Visit https://www.internetmatters.org/report-issue/ for support with reporting online concerns.

Wellbeing: Now more than ever, we need to be mindful of our child's online wellbeing. One of the best ways of keeping your child safe is by having regular conversations about their online activity. Here are some great tips from Internet Matters to get you started: https://www.internetmatters.org/resources/guide-to-encourage-kids-to-share-their-digital-lives/

Search Engines: While at home, your child may be doing more research online to support their learning. We recommend that your child uses the Swiggle search engine (https://swiggle.org.uk/), as this is child-friendly and offers higher levels of filtering than other search engines.

Screen Time: We recommend that your child takes regular breaks from using technology and that you set screen time boundaries to help your child achieve a healthy balance between the time they spend on and offline. For advice on screen time, visit https://www.internetmatters.org/issues/screen-time/

Parental Controls: If you do not already have this set up, we strongly recommend that you set parental controls on every device that your child has access to. For guidance on how to set parental controls, please visit https://www.internetmatters.org/parental-controls/. Here, you can select your device and/or internet provider from the drop-down list and view step by step guides of how to set parental controls.
